Beijing Library Press, formerly the Bibliography & Document Publishing House, was founded in 1979, and renamed in 1996. It is a division of the National Library of China and under the supervision of the Ministry of Culture, the People’s Republic of China. With the emphasis on the development of resources of the National Library of China, research and development in library and information science, the publishing house has published facsimile editions of rare books, monographs and translations in library and information science, bibliographies, indexes, monographs in historical studies, Chinese reference books, etc. Up to now it has published approximately 2700 titles. It is the only national press in library science as well as a professional press in publishing facsimile editions of ancient rare books.

Among its publications, many are well-known for the fine design, academic value and artistic value, such as Republication of Chinese Ancient Rare Books, Biographies in Local Record, Genealogies Collected in National Library of China (15 volumes), Excerption of Rubbings from Stone Inscriptions Collected in National Library of China, Series of Books on the Dream of Red Chamber, Hutongs of Beijing, A Pictorial Record of Old Peking Folklore, Stories on Initial Issues, etc. Besides, specialized publication about library science and informatics such as Library Taxonomy of China, Generality of Library Science, Catalog of Literature, etc. has been necessities in specialty of library science in universities and all kinds of domestic libraries.
